Origin & Growth

  • Our college was started with an initial strength of 79 students i.e. only with intermediate classes. The college was admitted into grant in Aid by G.O.Ms. No.308/ Education dated 18-02-1957. The First batch of graduates was relieved from the college in 1958.
  • In AMAL College, Department of Zoology was established in the year 1954.
  • In 1974 Zoology main system was introduced along with Botany and Chemistry as analary subjects. From 1990 Zoology was introduced as common subject for all CBZ students along with chemistry and botany.
  • Presently the college is holding one section in CBZ with Both English and Telugu Medium students. The present strength of students I B.Sc. (43), II B.Sc. (16), III B.Sc. (15).
  • Sri B.B.R. Krishna Murthy was the founder. The department was headed by Sri B.B.R. Krishna Murthy from 1954 to 1961. He laid a very good foundation to the department and good framework to the Member.
  • Later the department was headed by Sri K. Narasimha Rao from 1961-1991. He served the Zoology Department as the Head of the Department for 30 years. In his long tenure of service, he joined Demonstrator (1956-59), promoted as lecturer (1959-1961), Head of the Department (1961-1991) and retired as the principal (1992-93). He can be said the chief architect of the department.
  • Now the Department has two lecturers working under adhoc basis. Our department has been maintaining a very good Museum.

Erstwhile Staff Members

  1. Sri B.B.R. Krishna Murthy
  2. He joined the college in 1953. As founder lecturer in the department of Zoology. Later in 1958 he was promoted as head of the Department.
  3. He is a very very popular lecturer loved by all students and respected by all the colleques. He developed the Department right from its beginning with loving care and the present Zoology museum is a creation of his vision.
  4. He joined the Andhra Pradesh education services as lecturer in 1961. He worked as principal, Govt. College, Srikakulam, before his retirement.
  5. Sri. K. Narasimha Rao
  6. Sri. K. Narasimha Rao had joined the dept. of Zoology of AMAL College in 1956 as demonstrator. He was promoted as Lecturer in 1959. He was promoted as head of the Dept. of Zoology and served in the same capacity from 1961-1991. From 1992-1993 he served as the Principal of the College.
  7. He served as member of Board of studies for 4 years for degree. He used to take active part in all students and college functions and seminars. He was very much interested in systematic Zoology and conducted no.of Zoological tours.
  8. As the Head of the Department for 3 decades, he established good traditions in the department, which are followed till today. He did his M.Phil. under FIP and he wrote of textbooks for the Academy.
  9. He retired from his service in 1993.


  1. Sri. D. Jagannadha Rao
  2. Sri. D. Jagannadha Rao had joined the Department in 1961. He is the alumni of this college and obtained his M.Sc. degree from Andhra University, Visakhapatna.
  3. He was very strong in the fundamentals of the subject and exceptionally skilled in dissections.
  4. He has been interest in literature. He served as principal for a brief period before his retirement (as principal in Oct. 1998.


  1. Sri I. GopalaRaju
  2. Sri. I. GopalaRaju had joined the department in 1964. He obtained his M.Sc. degree from Baroda University.
  3. He took charge as lecturer-in-charge and served in the same capacity from 1992 to 2000. Later he has taken charge as principal of the college in 2000 and retired in the year 2002 in same capacity.
  4. In his tenure of the Head, half portion of the department was renovated. As the Head of the Department and as the Principal of the college he has taken interest in the all-round development.


  1. Smt. B. Seshulu
  2. Smt. B. Seshulu had joined the Department as demonstrator in the year 197.
  3. She was promoted as lecturer in the year 1976 and as the head of the department in the year 2000. She retired from the service in the year 2004.


  1. Dr. Azagar Ali
  2. Dr. S. Azagar Ali an alumni of the college as well as the Department did his M.Sc at Alighar Muslim University and joined the department as demonstrator in the year 1972 and promoted as lecturer in 1977.
  3. He did his Ph.D. under FIP programme and promoted as reader in 1985. He served as head of the Department for a brief period before his retirement in the year 2004.
  4. He served as NCC officer for more than 2 decades and acquired Major Rank and many commendations. He received State Best Teacher Award in the year 2004.


  1. Dr. K. BalaJagannadha Rao, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D.
  2. Dr. K. BalaJagannadha Rao had joined department in 1976.
  3. He took charge as lecturer-in-charge and served in the same capacity from 2004 to 2012.
  4. He attended several conferences, seminars and workshops.
  5. He had givenno.of guest lecturers in various colleges.
  6. He served as NSS programme officer for 4 years and served as District programme officer for 4 year.
  7. He received State Best Teacher Award in the year 2001 and Merit certificate from District collector in the year 2000.
  8. He received Rotary District Award for best services as coordinator – pulse polie, 2002.


  1. Dr. Y. Bala Rama Murthy, M.Sc., B.L., Ph.D.
  2. Dr.Y. Bala Rama Murthy joined in the department in 1981. He published two papers. He retired from the service in 2008.


  1. Smt. K. LeelaVathi M.Sc., M.Phil.
  2. Smt. K. LeelaVathi had joined in the department in 1982. She took charge as lecturer-in-charge and served in the same capacity from 2012 to 2014.
  3. She was a member in Board of Studies, M.R. Autonomous College, Vijayanagaram.
  4. She retired from the service in the year 2014.


  1. Sri. M. Gopala Krishna Murthy
  2. Sri Gopala Krishna Murthy had joined in the department in 1982. He retired from the service in the year 2010.


  1. Dr. V. Appala Naidu
  2. He published more than 5 research papers. He wrote some many books like EMCET, Academy Books.
  3. He died in the service in the year 2009.


  1. Smt. T.V.B. Padmaja M.Sc.
  2. She joined in the department in the year 1999 as part time lecturer. She has been working in the department as a part time lecturer from 1999 to 2012.


  1. Sri. Y. Prakash Rao. M.Sc., B.Ed.

He joined department in 2013 as part time lecturer. He obtained M.Sc. from Sri. Venkateswara University., Tirupathi.

 

  1. Smt. K. Swathi. M.Sc.,
  2. She joined department as part time lecturer in the year 2016. He obtained M.Sc. from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Gunturu. She discontinued in 2018 and rejoined in 2021


 

  1. Smt. M.Sruthi.M.Sc.

Shejoinred department as part time lecturer in the year 2018 she discontinued in 2019


  • At present two lecturers working in the department of Zoology namely 1. Dr.P. Soujanya 2. ChMohini.
