Programme Outcomes (POs)

Programme Outcomes are statements about the knowledge, skills and attitudes (attributes) the students should have at the end of a formal program (i.e., three-year Commerce/Science.etc, Graduate program) in India. POs are broader statements that describe what the students areexpected to learn and would be able to do after their Bachelor Degree. POs deal with the generalaspect of graduation for a particular programme, and the competencies and expertise a graduatewill possess after completion of the programme. The POs adopted by the National Board forAccreditation (NBA) for accreditation of programmes are based on initial capabilities, competence, skills, etc. These parameters are called Graduate Attributes and they vary fromdiscipline to discipline and level to level.

Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

Programme Specific Outcomes are statements that describe what the students should be able to do at the time of graduation. These are expected learning outcomes that will help the teacher to checkfor understanding and learning achieved by our students both in and outside the class. The PSOsare program specific.

Course Outcomes (COs)

POs and PSOs are attained through program specific Core Courses (Papers). These course-specific outcomes are called Course Outcomes. Course Outcomes (Cos) are narrower statements thatdescribe what students are expected to know, and be able to do at the end of each course. The COsare statements that relate to the skills, knowledge, and behaviour the students acquire as they gothrough a specific course within a program. The course outcomes are statements which are course-specific. They cover the core course related outcomes, and contribute to the overall attainment ofthe Program Outcomes. Each course is designed to meet (about 5–6) Course Outcomes. TheCourse Outcomes are stated in such a way that they can be actually measured. COs are set by theinstitution, by consulting with the department heads, faculty, students and other stakeholders.
